How you experience events in your life plays a huge role in how you feel about them. Just as no two people react in the same way to the same event, counselling is a different process for everyone. At The Breakthrough Project we work to understand you and your experiences as an individual to offer the most appropriate support for you.
Anxiety and depression create a spectrum of emotions and symptoms, from occasional low mood and sadness to continuous feelings of hopelessness and despair. Counselling can help you explore and understand your feelings and provide techniques and tools, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), to help you help yourself.
If you are experiencing issues with personal or professional relationships; or have difficulty forming or maintaining relationships with others, counselling can help you gain fresh perspective and provide space for exploration, decision-making and change.
Issues at work can quickly become all-consuming, negatively affecting all areas of your life. Counselling can provide a space to assess your situation and work through your difficulties, and provide tools and strategies to help better manage stress.
Difficulties can occur at certain stages of our lives - perhaps as a result of pregnancy, the ending of a relationship or reaching retirement; once children leave home or we become carers for elderly or dependent relatives. Counselling can help you cope with the associated feelings of loss, resentment, anger, despair and frustration.
Our lives and plans can change dramatically, without our consent and without warning. Counselling can help you process and cope with the effects and impact of crisis and trauma.
This first meeting is an informal opportunity to learn more about counselling and how it might help you.
By the end of the meeting we will decide whether we will work together or if a different approach might better meet your needs.
Counselling provides a safe space to explore your feelings and consider your options.
Appointments can be offered as a one-off session, or can be used to provide support over weeks or months, if desired.
Integrative therapists use a range of counselling skills to assist you, whatever your reasons for seeking support may be.
Whether you feel held back by the past; are fearful of the future or are struggling with life in the here-and-now, help is available.
